Panama

Panama is known as one of The Best Retirement Countries if not The Best. Why? Panama has a low cost of living, great retirement programs, it’s banking system, safety, great infrastructure and friendly people. Panama is truly unique! It boasts the fastest growing economy and was 2nd behind China in 2007 for the largest economy. Being the last country in Central America and in the center of it all, the expansion of the Panama Canal will help to fuel the economy there through 2014. Panama is also expanding their infrastructure from today’s very good internet and roads, by adding their first metro line in the next 5 years. Being influenced by the United States, the currency is the US dollar making it easy for those that want to retire there. Panama wants foreigners there and have made it easy for them to immigrate. Panama’s focus since 2008 and 2009 is on those that have pensions and/or want to invest in Panama. Our team of retirement specialist will assist you in understanding the best way to retire, what area best fits your needs, or the best place to have a second home there.

Featured Areas:

Coronado: Coronado is considered as being in the dry arch of Panama and is the closest of our featured towns to Panama City, making it a fairly easy commute. Coronado is where all the well-to-do Panamanians go on holiday or for a long weekend. It is also attracting a lot of expats and therefore a lot of new shopping and restaurants have been or are being added. Prices in Coronado have gone up and the roads within Coronado itself are less than to be desired, but if you like a drier climate and all the amenities (including local health care) Coronado, or towns outside of Coronado that have better roads, may be the place for you. From Coronado it is also an easy drive to El Valle which is a lovely town in the cooler mountains offering residents the best of all worlds.

Boquete/Volcan: Ahh, the stunning Boquete! We like Boquete because of it’s natural beauty, adventure activities, charming town, restaurants, fabulous coffee…………..and friendly people. Boquete really caters to the expat and there are a lot of expats there, so there are signs in English and many people speak English, but that also makes this a more pricy area. Boquete is only a 45 minute drive from David making it very convenient for larger shopping needs and is located in the highland area. This area is a cooler, wetter climate with many varieties of gorgeous orchids (over 2000 from what we are told) and many other lush flowers, beautiful waterfalls, howler monkeys and if you’re really lucky the occasional Quetzal. If you are looking for a less developed, less expensive, town than you might want to check out Volcan, which is in the same area and offers a lot of the same qualities.

Pedasi: We like Padasi because of it’s small town charm, it’s true beauty, expansive beaches, culture, wildlife and sea life adventures. Here you can still find some well-priced properties and is known for it’s great climate having both clear and sunny days as well as rainy and sunny days that make this area absolutely beautiful. Although it is a little more remote than some of the other areas in Panama, you can still get to Panama City or David in half a day and is 45 minutes from Las Tables which is a little larger and has more amenities and medical care. Padasi is very quiet and does not have the expat influence that some of the other areas have. The roads are good here and if you are looking for quiet and great water activities, this may be the place for you.
